All Play Format

Opportunity for longer play duration and touches on the ball

Purpose and Benefits

The All Play Format provides players the opportunity to have maximum touches on the ball during gameplay.  This leads to the player being more engaged in the play where the development of concentration, skill competency, and passion for the game begin to cultivate within the player.

The multiple fields provide a player-centric environment where coaches can become game facilitators, rather than concerned with tactics or substitutions, allowing players to make their own decisions, creatively and freely.  In addition, the ALL-Play Format will provide the coach with the flexibility to create parity in the games to balance the varying levels of ability on each team.  Players matched according to level creates a more competitive and challenging environment for every player.

How the Format Works for U5-U6 Teams

For U5-U6 games, a total of 4 fields will be available to ensure 100% participation, 100% of the game time. With rosters maximized at 12 players, this provides coaches the ability to have 3 players on each field participating in the games.

There are no referees in these age groups and the games will be facilitated by the coaches and parent volunteers.  The rules are simple with little interruption of game play as we do not play with kick-ins, throw-ins, goal kicks etc.  The ball placed back onto the field, allowing the kids to play and fully optimize their time. The duration of the game is 32 minutes, divided into 8-minute quarters.

In the event of uneven numbers, you may see games that are played 2v2 and 3v2.  In all, if all the players are playing and participating, this is acceptable.  In the end, the goal is to get players playing and maximize their touches on the ball.

How the Format Works for U7-U8 Teams

For U7-U8 games, there will be a total of 3 fields. With rosters maximized at 12 players, this provides coaches the ability to have 4 players on each field participating in the games.

There are referees for this age group and players now play with throw-ins, goal kicks, and corner kicks.  Fouls will also be called.  The duration of the game is 40 minutes, divided into 10-minute quarters.

In the event of uneven numbers, you may see games that are played 3v3 and 4v3.  In all, if all the players are playing and participating, this is acceptable.  In the end, the goal is to get players playing and maximize their touches on the ball.

What People are Saying about the All Play Format

"I have been meaning to send you an e-mail all week to follow up on the “All Play” action on Saturday.  Love it!  Removes stress from coaches that have 11-12 players every week trying to balance time/minutes for each player and the kids enjoy the amount of playing time and touches on the ball!"

"I really like the all play format. In the end, it matters how the players like it and all my girls loved it. I think the parents did too as the kids were all tuckered out and ready for naps in the afternoon."
